The idea behind ruralrehab.co.za..
Prior to the arrival of the internet, living in a rural setting really
meant that you had to forge ahead alone, or if you were lucky with a
friend on the end of a phone to advise you. But in this time in South
Africa, there is cellphone cover and as a result, internet cover, in
almost every area of the country. This means that the internet can be a
supportive resource and reduce the professional isolation that used to
be the lot of the rural rehab worker! Hopefully now all the wisdom
gained through experience can now be shared and not lost.
This website aims to be a useful resource to people in rural settings. We also hope that with support in this small way, that people could be encouraged to stay long term in rural settings, and as a result that rural rehabilitation can become a chosen speciality for health professionals. Rural Rehab South Africa (RuReSA)
RuReSA is a newly formed interest group for rehabiltiation professionals who have an interest in Rehabilitation in rural places. Members have the chance to input on policy, give and receive personal
and professional support, work with universities to promote
rural-friendly curricula and encourage students to go rural. We also
hold an annual conference with Rudasa (Rural Doctors Assoc of SA). We believe that rural work can be inspiring and fun, and with a little support we can achieve great things.
As RuReSA is still in its infancy, membership is free until the end of April 2012, and thereafter R150 per year for professionals (PT,OT,SLT and Audio), and R70 for Technicians and others. To join now, please download and complete the application form below, and email it to dart (at) sai.co.za. You will then be sent an invitation to our Google group, which will keep you in the rural loop. We look forward to welcoming you as part of RuReSA!
